About Moving Colours

My father, Henri Vlezenbeek, passed away in September 2021. Henri has been a very productive artist and has had numerous exhibitions. With his passing, I inherited many (more than 1300) of his colourful oil paintings.

The colours in Henri’s paintings seem to be moving, evoking emotions. They move us! Hence the name of my gallery:

Moving Colours.

I believe my father’s original oil paintings, or their high-quality fine art (giclée) reproductions, or the affordable posters are stunning and an absolute joy to look at. They are a welcome and colourful addition to any home. Henri’s paintings are true Wall Art. Through my online art gallery www.movingcolours.com.au I keep my father’s legacy alive.

Meet the artist, Henri Vlezenbeek

Henri Vlezenbeek was a rather prolific artist. One could say, Henri was somewhat restless and needed to have an ongoing change of landscapes and sceneries, to quench his thirst for new images. He travelled for decades through Europe. This inspired him to paint, in his characteristic impressionist art, many of his colourful paintings. Henri experienced his life as a wonderful bliss, especially in his senior years, he would just about daily paint, while listening to classical music. He did so, right up until the very last week of his life.

Henri's biography

Henri Vlezenbeek was born on 18 May 1934 in Surabaya on the island Java. Being of Dutch descent, Henri and his family migrated in 1948 to the Netherlands. In his high school years, Henri was introduced to the works of several famous Dutch artists like Rembrandt, Monet, van Gogh and many others. As well as modern artists like the CoBrA group and Picasso. He was deeply captured by their work and as a young man he desired to be an artist himself.

Henri travelled many times through Europe to the Ardennes in Belgium, the Toscana in Italy, to Spain and throughout most of France, his favourite European country, and within the Netherlands. Henri’s tropical origin in Indonesia had etched in him an unquenching appreciation for colour and light which he imbeds in his Impressionist Art.

Inspired by all his travels, Henri expressed his love for nature and bright colours, by painting a vast variety of sceneries of landscapes, trees and flowers. Frequently his images were almost abstract, but always breathtaking and captivating with moving colours that seems to bring his paintings to life.
